Beginner’s Roadmap for Cracking the SEBI Grade A Exam

Right now is the perfect time for you to begin SEBI Grade A preparation because the SEBI Grade A notification is expected to be announced in December 2025. If you start your preparation right now, you can spend all your time making a very good study plan, and follow it with consistency without getting panicked or stressed.

By now, all of us are quite familiar with this theory that whenever the notification is released, we then begin our preparation in panic and distress because we then realize that time is running out and the syllabus is vast.

That is why in this article, I am sharing the SEBI Grade A 2025 study plan, so that you can start your preparation right away. And in order to start preparation, you first need to understand the exam structure.

    Understanding the exam structure

The SEBI Grade A exam is conducted at 3 stages: Phase 1, Phase 2, and Interview.

In SEBI Grade A Phase 1, there are 2 papers. Paper 1 is just a qualifying paper, which includes subjects like QRE & GA. The SEBI Grade A Phase 1 Paper 2 test is stream-based, in which MCQs are asked from Commerce & Accountancy, Management, Finance, Costing, and Companies Act.

SEBI Grade A Phase 2 again has 2 papers. Paper 1 consists of Descriptive writing, which tests your drafting skills. In the SEBI Grade A Phase 2 Paper 2, it again asks MCQs from the stream-based subject. This is where your knowledge of finance, management, economics, or whichever stream you applied for is tested.

Finally, the Interview is about personality and clarity of thought. It’s not just about what you know, but how confidently and logically you present your answers.

Now that you have understood the SEBI Grade A exam structure, you are ready to create or follow a study plan for your SEBI Grade A preparation.

Roadmap for The Beginners of the SEBI Grade A Exam

If you even start your preparation today, then it is safe to say that you will have at least 6 months before you need to appear for the SEBI Grade A Phase 1 exam.

And hypothetically assuming that if you have less time, then I suggest that you adjust this plan according to your needs, strengths, or weaknesses, whichever way is suitable for you.

Step 1: Get a Complete Understanding of the SEBI Grade A exam

    • Read the official notification line by line.
    • Download the syllabus and previous year question papers.
    • Attempt one full-length mock test.

Yes, you need to attempt at least 1 mock test at the beginning of your preparation, as this will show you where you stand. Yes, you can attempt multiple mock tests as well. This step is very important as you will be testing yourselves and then make a conscious decision to start practicing slowly but steadily.

Step 2: Clear Your Basics of all SEBI Grade  A Subjects

    • Cover fundamental concepts in QRE (Quant, Reasoning, and English). Since you are starting your prep this early in the day, you have plenty of time to give to every subject in your SEBI Grade A syllabus, so cover the basics to build a strong foundation.
    • For GA (General Awareness), no need to read and go through multiple magazines or newspapers. This early in your preparation, you can give it time and figure out which 1 source works for you the best.

Step 3: Strengthening Your SEBI Grade A Knowledge

    • Deep dive into stream-specific subjects (Finance, Management, Legal, etc.). These will decide your SEBI Grade A Phase 2 score.
    • Start descriptive English practice: essays, précis, and comprehension. At first, it might feel awkward, but the only way to improve writing is to practice regularly.
    • Attempt sectional tests. These help you improve speed in specific areas.

Step 4: Keep Practicing and Analyzing Your Mistakes Every Weekend

    • Take at least 2–3 mock tests per week. But don’t just attempt them. You need to spend plenty of time analyzing your mistakes. For every wrong question, ask: Why did I miss it? Was it a concept issue, calculation error, or time mismanagement?
    • Revise notes from the first few months. Make short revision sheets, important formulas, current affairs highlights, or key definitions.

Step 5: Last Month – Final preparation

    • You are ready now. After this, you need to focus only on revision. Try not to pick new topics from random sources telling you to cover them.
    • You need to solve mock tests in an exam-simulated environment, which will teach you time management.
    • You need to make your own notes and revise them daily.
    • Last but not least, you need to put your mental and physical health first. Sleep properly, eat, and exercise. Don’t let one exam destroy your temple (your body).

    Choosing resources wisely

One big mistake beginners make is collecting too many resources.

Multiple books, countless YouTube videos, endless PDFs; this creates more confusion than clarity. The golden rule is: one source per subject is enough, if you revise it well.

Remember, finishing one book three times is far better than skimming through five books once.

    Quick recap of the roadmap

    • Read the notification and understand the syllabus.
    • Attempt a diagnostic mock test immediately.
    • Build basics in the first 2 months.
    • Strengthen stream subjects in the next phase.
    • Practice descriptive English.
    • Attempt regular mocks and analyze mistakes.
    • Revise consistently, especially in the final month.

    Final word

You are starting early, picking the right sources, testing yourself regularly, and staying consistent. Trust me when I say this, that you’ll be way ahead of most beginners trying to prepare for SEBI Grade A. Trust the process and just go for it. You can do it!
